My final thesis
is a 16-page comic called “The Reluctant Honey Trap”, which tells the story
about a well-known political event in ancient China in around 500 BC. This
story involves conquests and revenges between two neighboring states, hatred
and covetousness between their two kings, and contests between the kings’
consolers. To win the war, the weaker of the two states, the State of Yue, sends
a beautiful woman as a present to their enemy king, the King of Wu. The King of
Wu falls in love with her, without knowing that her real duty is to seduce and
weaken him. This method works well, but at the cost of sacrificing the girl’s
entire happiness. This sad but dramatic story intrigued me terribly, and I
enjoyed the process of transforming it from words into pictures.
A style that combines both Eastern and Western styles is
what I have always wanted to pursue as my academic goal. Also, using Western
genres such as Graphic Novel to tell Chinese stories is what I want to do as my
future career.
Here I put the first half of my thesis project as a sample to showcase.
